"what does chess mean to you", is a question that often arrives in chess- forums and blogs ect. Boring topic, some might say after reading 50 answers that really say the same...
But it don't really get old, does it? The biggest difference is how far one have travelled one the journey that is the game of chess. As the great chessplayes Josh Waitzkin said. The more you play, the more you will draw paralells from the board and into your life. It took a while for me to see some resemblence what so ever between this board- game and the life I was, and am, leading as a sailor. But suddenly one day, there it was. Me picturing myself as a pawn in this game that is life as sea. "Am I going crazy, or am I just begging to get a understanding of the game?", where the thoughts going through my mind.
Imagine, all the people in this world that do not even know the rules of the game, vs. all the people that almost lives and breaths for it. How about that for a contrast...
"What is the meaning of this drunken rabbling?", you might think at this point, if you even botherd to read this far. Well... Not much, is suppose. Just airing my thoughts, mabye hoping to get a little thinking elswere aswell... Rounding off with a quote from J. Ross:
"If drink is the curse of the working classes and work is the curse of the drinking classes then chess is the curse of the thinking classes”
