What chess means to me by sneaky1

I started playing chess in 1988. It was during the apartheid era here in south africa. When riots were too out of control schools would shut down for long periods and kids would be taught in different locations in make-shift classrooms under heavy duress. One of our educators brought a chess set to school oneday made with card board cut-out pieces and a cardboard chess board. She taught us to play chess. Today I am 30 years old. My teacher have since passed on. But her knowledge she has imparted by teaching me such a beautiful game will be with me forever. I love this game. And I may not be a good player, but it makes me think of where I've been in life and what I have accomplished since my very first move I have ever made.

Thanks
