Chess is my excape from work

Chess is my excape from work.  I have a pretty stressful job.  I work for the city of Santa Barbara and have to deal with people complaining about there neighbors and the trash situation day in and day out.  The public often confuses me with the trash hauler and I receive even more complaints cenerning what they did or didn't do.  I know that they are not mad at me but often it is difficult when these people are yelling at you, and I do mean yelling at you and everything else that goes with that, to not feel as though it is your fault.  I don't want these people to be mad so I do everything I can to rectify there problem.  I go out and I pick up trash and various other things that I will not include in an email just so that these people will be happy and feel as though someone cares.  For those rare down times I turn to chess.  It is peaceful, quite, and I love the interaction with fellow chess players around the world.  It helps calm me and bring my blood pressure back to normal.  It is also a lot cheaper than therapy.  That is what chess is to me, therapy.  Thank you chesshere.com for being an outlet for my stress.  Premium membership or not I love your site and I can't wait till my 24 hours are up so I can check in for another session.  Thanks for being there for me.

I agree. Chess is a great outlet to relieve stress and to enjoy some down time. I work in the financial industry for a well known firm (not a broker yet)as a Customer Service rep. It can be stressful as well, especially now with the way the market has been lately and during tax time. For obvious reasons, I don't play chess at work, but as soon as I finish my 10 hour day, I go home and start making moves. The more I search the web, the more chess sites I find; not necessarily playing sites, but instructional sites. They are helping my game play so much! I like www.chessvideos.tv, www.chessgames.com and Youtube. As far as dealing with rude or unhappy clients, I suggest the following reading: "7 habits for highly successful people" by Stephen Covey "Raving Fans" by Ken Blanchard "See you at the top" by Zig Ziglar and especially... The Bible. After reading it for 15 minutes or so each day, I tend not to take things so personal and I handle confrontations much better. I just try to be well rounded and be the best chess player, and more importantly, best person I can be. Best regards, Pure
