What Is Your Favorite?

My favorite chess book is a softbound teaching book by Bobby Fischer. It forces you to think and analyze the board. It helps you to "see" combinations of moves, to form sacrificial moves to force an end to the game that otherwise would be even. It shows you how to analyze possible sacrifices to find the proper one for opening up a closed position and gaining the victory. ej

I really like the one of Roman Pelts with Lev Alburt, because it's a school format book. Let me explain : It's like a math or english book, with questions and tests, but it's chess. In this book, theey also tell what not to do, tactics, strategy, and much more.

Nimzowitsch's "My System'. I keep coming back to it. Possibly the most complete chess book till date. His chapter on the endgame is worth re-reading a hundred times. Even the most tame positions look like a raging battle after he explains it.

I must agree that Nimzowitsch's "My System" is probably the best one I have read.
