chess timeouts................

Just had a bad experience with unfortunately my timeouts.. On this past Sunday I was playing games that would have timed out had I not made a move. So when I quit at around 10 am I was good. Low an behold on Monday morning I still had 5 timeouts. Seems I ran out of time afterall. Well I contacted each player involved asking for  more time.  Some more than once. Didn't matter all 3 players took there wins and ran. I wouldn't be so angry except up until now I';d only had 3 timeouts charged to me. So to anyone that plays against me I'm going to do the same. I used to notify the player before I took the wins. NOT ANYMORE!!!! Sorry blame it on the other guys. Do  I think its wrong, you bet. Do I care anymore. NO!!!! Sorry to anyone who I will offend in the future. I just don't give a ripe now. Please post your feelings if you want.

I think that anyone is within their rights to claim a timeout, even if it's the first time that the opponent timed out, and even if they are in a losing position. To me, timing out is losing just the same as getting checkmated.

I agree with Sven. I only send reminders in challenge games because I consider them friendly in nature. Tournaments and Team Games are more of a competition and I take the timeout automatically.

I disagree with Svenfromntbym. No offence man. I just wanna state something obvious. It is a matter of good manners and chessplayer ethicks. It is good in life to go for the battle and not for the easy winning. Now dear nofischer, on a real (in real life) chess club or tournament, you will seldom find people with bad manners, low ethics, opportunistic behaviour or an "I wanna win easily" attitude. If you do find such persons, their ELO is almost never above 1500. That tells everything about chess. But here is an internet website. Anyone can enter, anyone can say whatever he wants and try cheap tricks to you. One example. Somebody tried to me the "fool's mate". Of course i countered it, by telling him "Cheap trick". He somehow was so annoyed, that he answered "F=#*& you"... I told him i will report him, waiting for just a "sorry", he continued by telling "Ok go on". I replied "I never asked your permission", i defeated him on the Real time blitz game we had and then i contacted a moderator here in chesshere. So because here is a webpage, te best thing you can do is make some announcements in your profile. Timeout=loss, bad manners = Ignore. And put into ignore list anyone who makes you feel bad about this website. If you do this, you will get rid of them once and for all. In a chess club, if you dislike someone... you never get rid of him. See? It's another point of view. Cheer up mate!

I completely disagree with dreadshadow on timeouts (and somewhat on opportunistic behaviour) but completely agree with you on other rude behaviour. Timeout wins are not rude, illegal, or bad manners. They are a rule. If you go to an OTB club and play blitz, you lose on timeout, if you play 30 minute chess you lose on timeout, if you play 30/90 game 30 + 30 sec/move you lose on timeout. If your opponent is in time trouble you are smart to give them difficult positions so they have to use more time. Its no different than touching a piece and being forced to move it. You can avoid timeouts in a club by not using a clock, but top players almost never do that. I hate timing out and deserve any loss when I do. If anyone has a problem with timing out then my suggestion is play longer time controls so it is no longer an issue. Cheap tricks are generally not best play so are not used by best players. If they were best play, they would be used constantly. Every player wants a brilliant win and fast is generally good. As I recall there was even a story where 2 grandmasters were playing and one really hated smoking so the other brought a box of cigars and set them on the table just to distract his opponent. However...rude jerks and people who suddenly start using full time each move to prolong a lost position should all be very publicly removed from great sites like this one. I like your idea on the profile announcements, unfortunately rude people will never comply. Sorry for being long winded! Tally Ho!!!!!!!!!

It can happen to anyone to have much things in real life or have no time for chess. Time out should have a reminding, at least one, no matter winning or loosing match, the next T.O won't get no reminding anymore...

What is rude is timing out. Even ruder is complaining that you are the ijured party. You broke the rules!
