Some guys were playing the old trick of the bill attatched to a string and filming it... I went for scissors.-

I was in the grand canyon and tried impressing my crush that i could jump a 3 foot gorge (i was in the seventh grade at the time)she told me not to, and i thought i was going to make it...
I ended up falling in a crevice; she thought it was hilarious but i thought it was just stupid.

I fell head first into one of the bogs on Martag Moor in the Lake District came out dripping in mud from head to foot. 'Are you hurt?' said the pretty young lady with me.
My reply - 'Only my pride!'

Did I feel stupid.

the definition for a crevice: a gap between two rocks-

Thats a fairly silly thing to do to impress us Don. -

How about \"grinding thread\"?-

8United  cc1422628594ChessHere Gold Member2013-05-10 15:47:15
During my deletion of old threads I ran across this one. Doing something stupid is not limited by time, so I bumped the thread where you could find it.

I thought you might enjoy it.

Since I resurrected this thread and nobody seems interested in posing their \'stupid mistakes\' I guess I am committed to post one of mine.

I have my computer in my bedroom (cause I live in a 1 bedroom apt) and I have the phone book and backup drives laying on the floor to the right side of my computer.

Well, wouldn\'t you know it... when I got up in the middele of the night to take a leak I forgot that I had moved these items and tripped over the phone book! *ARGH*

Yeah, it was a srupid thing to do, but I did it. As a result I stubbed my toe and it hurts.

Dang! I should be more careful living in an apartment with limited space.
*SIGH*

Perhaps a night light would remedy the situation -

11Australia  Baggy_Gee2013-05-12 18:06:46
That would be a very silly thing, over here you can void your insurance if a house fire can be traced back to a nightlight. My dumbest moment that wasn\'t related to chess (i have plenty of dumb moves) was showing off how much faster my BMX was compared to a friends racer. Pulling up on the handlebars to get more leg drive the front wheel left the ground, well actually the forks left the wheel and then when they came back down there was no wheel, just dirt. I flipped over the handlebars landed on my head and I don\'t remember much after that.-

Gee... that explains a lot! -

ahhhh head injuries, a lifetime of ridicule from a moment of stupidity. But i was very fortunate that i didn\'t sufffer any lasting damage a lot of other people are a lot unluckier from smaller incidents.-

Baggy_Gee,

It might bring us closer to let you know that when I was a baby my father dropped me.
I grew up with my mom & dad fighting over the incident:

She claimed he dropped me on my head and he claimed he flipped me up with the toe part of his shoe and grabbed me.

I grew up liking acrobatics.

#10 synaps

I am one of those people who have to have it completely dark in the room (and QUIET!) in order to sleep.

Imagine my surprize when I agreed to share a hotel room with a fellow chessplayer for an out of the town tournament and when it came time to go to bed he said he could not sleep unless the TV was on (and audible).
ARGHH!!! Worst tournament of my life!

I\'m game, if just a tad late in posting to this thread! When i was around eight or nine, a bunch of us neighborhood kids were playing when i spotted a stone fireplace with chimney over in the yard of a summer home that was now vacant. someone dared me to climb down into the chimney and back out again. Stupid me said okay! I proceeded to become stuck about halfway up my body and could not get out. A neighbor finally came over and managed to pull me back out. Felt really stupid about that.

May I surmise that\'s when you stopped believing in Santa Claus.-

It seems Eric thought he is Santa that time-

How do you reason with someone who firmly believes one can somehow \"cheat\" in online chess by making your opponent\'s moves for them?? This person claims she will report me, but all she will be reporting is her extreme ignorance.-

Once in grade school I ate a large beetle to impress a girl I liked. Unfortunately, my suave has not much matured with age xD-

21Canada  dsuttlesChessHere Moderator2015-07-07 07:37:34
Three days on, I am still digesting that.

I once jumped off the top of a swing on to a heap of cut grass to impress a girl I liked. The stupid bit was being stuck on the top of the swing for about an hour first.

Once about 5 years ago (MUCH more recently than the beetle-related stunt) I was at a party quite heavy with alcohol, I challenged my crush\'s newly-appointed boyfriend, a wiry chap a year or two younger than I was with a solid background in wrestling/grappling, to a wrestling match. Having about 40 lbs of muscle and 20 lbs otherwise on the kid, as well as a caustic, nonchalant attitude that caused many a bar patron or \"wannabe thug\" to launch a surprise assault, giving me some self-taught background of self-defense and manipulation of kinetic energy. Within two minutes, I was pinned face down by the shrimp, the certified party doofus. Damn you, training!!!-

23Canada  dsuttlesChessHere Moderator2015-07-15 10:28:46
I was challenged to a press-ups challenge by a doofus at a similar do. He managed five, and I whined out.-

^Aw geez xD-

25Canada  dsuttlesChessHere Moderator2015-07-17 07:30:19
Yeah.-

26United  jonesmh2015-08-13 00:07:55
I have never purposely done anything to try to impress anyone, however my stupidest mistake was learning to play chess. My obsessive personality makes chess too costly.-
