I was not paying much attention when I started this game against a 1287 rated player. But I soon realized that my 2-pawn advantage was not sufficient and that I was staring at an imminent mate. It was touch and go, until the poor guy made (in my opinion) the decision to not exchange queens. After that, even though I was only a few moves from being mated, I thought I had a chance. I\'m black, in case anyone wonders.

I don\'t see a mate, you had your black squares around your king well covered. If he had a dark squared bishop, maybe it could be dangerous, but your dark squared bishop is doing a fine defensive job. Your opponent was right not to exchange queens, he was down in material. However, he made the mistake to push the f-pawn weakening his kingside even more and opening the c5-g1 diagonal for your bishop.-

The lesson is clear: always play opponents who only want to push pawns.-

Seriously, you played a solid game and developed well. One little quibble - with the sizeable lead you had I would have traded queens on move 25 and taken the extra pawn. Good game.-

Anyone care to explain the rationale behind 20. ... Kf8 iso Qxc6 or Nxc6? Either one seems better.-

My only thought is that it is an overthinking mistake. If Q or Nxc6, 21 d5 discovers a secondary attack on the h8 rook. By avoiding the tricky move he forgot about the obvious capture on a8. Possibly?-

i think he moved his king not wanteding to lose him rook, but by over thinking he loses the bishop and rook. as for trading queen, i wanted to hit a check, but his queen took the pawn preventing me from checking where i wanted. thank you for all the comments!-
