What\'s happening?-

Whatever happened to the time when chess players still had the capacity to think critically? Does anyone play to get better anymore, or is it just about swiping pieces and sticking it out with your advantage to the weary end? I see more players, even on this website, hoping and paying that you make a blunder or your internet connection is unreliable and boost you than I see real playing, and players with the ability to devise and carry out strategies, regardless of material advantages. Is it just me, or has this website become a huge race for rating? I see so few players anymore with ambition to improve and have fun at the game, and an increasing amount of those who play to inflate their rating, which should be a reflecting of personal improvement, not some number beyond your skill level that sits on display for all to see but you are afraid to play in fear of someone with a much lower rating getting in a win and mucking your hard-earned trophy...-

Chess history in the making!

Fabiano Caruana continues his perfect run of wins into the second half of the second Sinquefield Cup, the strongest chess tournament ever.

1. Caruana, Fabiano 6
2. Carlsen, Magnus 3
3. Topalov, Veselin 2½
4. Vachier-Lagrave, Maxime 2½
5. Nakamura, Hikaru 2
6. Aronian, Levon 2

The Italian has now equalled Karpov\'s 1994 Linares record for starting win streak in a modern super-tournament, and overtaken Aronian to take second place in the world rankings.

Wow ! Fabiano Caruana. Trips off the tongue.
Thanks for the heads up !

65Canada  dsuttlesChessHere Moderator2014-09-07 06:34:42
1 Caruana, Fabiano 8½ 2801

2 Carlsen, Magnus 5½ 2877
3 Topalov, Veselin 5 2772
4 Vachier-Lagrave, Maxime 4 2768
5 Aronian, Levon 4 2805
6 Nakamura, Hikaru 3 2787

Caruana drew the last three games, but the first of those, against Carlsen, was enough to take gold.

\"Even if he doesn\'t show up for the last two rounds, it is one of the great results of our time.\"

- Carlsen

The elo gap is closing, too.
