Chess, to me, represents the first time me and my father connected

by okkidd

My father is a Vietnam veteran, when I was a child he was plagued with nightmares and depression due to his time in service.  I once asked him about the army and war.  He tried to explain, as best as he could to a seven year old.  When he saw I wasn't understanding totally he got a chess board to give me a demonstration making comparisons ie. pawns were infantry, castles artillary, knights were calvalry, etc.  That was the day we played our first game.  I now have a son of my own and began teaching him at the age of six.  Chess, to me, represents the first time me and my father connected, not as father and son, but as two individuals enjoying one another.  And now, that's what it is for me and my son;  a man and a man "in training" matching intellect and getting to know one another as men

For me, Chess is an enjoyable way to relax

by Jesus Freak

For me, Chess is an enjoyable way to relax while using my mind at the same time.  I greatly enjoy the various interactions I get to have with people all over the world on the Chesshere site.  I certainly want to win the matches I play and learn from my opponents, but that is not what is really important to me.  I simply enjoy the game and getting to play with so many different partners helps to round out my game a bit.  I have also made some friendships with people I have met online while playing.  One in particular has continued for a number of months as we email each other regularly, so that has also been enjoyable.  I have no illusions about wanting to become a Grand Master or study the finer intricacies of every move and opening in the game, rather I just enjoy playing, using my mind, and meeting many good people on-line.

Chess represents for me

by sirdad1

Chess represents for me a means (as a senior citizen and still playing chess at 68) the ability to develop mental agility;  co-ordination of thought and action; and above all a comradeship between players.

I have played opponents from all corners of the world and that has helped with geographic knowledge and social awareness.

I teach a Chess class and help run a local Chess club for students.  I help them establish good thought processes using the chessboard as a layout.  Playing honestly and as gentlemen and ladies is a benefit that they all obtain.

I have been influential on helping several Chess sites   both with suggestion for keeping the sites honest and with recruiting players for Teams and Tourneys.

Chess has been a steady influence with me since my early days (High school) thru military (AF clubs and tournaments around the world) and then helping as PR director at the Local Adult club and finally now as the guiding for ... Read more >>>

I love chess

by cata1234

I love chess, and I'm glad whenever I have the opportunities to play it.
Once upon a time I was fascinated watching my big brother playing chess against our father.
At one moment, they ask me if I wont to play. I said: "of course". And I begun my  first  game . I was 5 years old.
I lost that game, but I won because the seeds of chess was planted to my heart.
Now, after years, I play better than my teachers, and even when l am defeated,  the beauty of the game makes me happy.

chess - I love it and I hate it

by davyman

Hi,I think people mistake being able to play chess as being intelligent. I disagree - I think it is just understanding the game and the psychology of human behavour. To me, no other game or sport offers this. I also believe there is no luck in chess, another aspect which makes the game unique. The game takes minutes to learn but a lifetime to master. I love it and I hate it

chess - it is a great science

by bagri

chess is a world for me that I can't tell you what it represents for me , but as brief, what I can say, it is a great science, that if one wants to reach all of it,  regretfully, he or she cannot reach, and above all, after somtime, it will, yes it will forget . even if he or she be a genius. so it's better we look at it as a play, but it is so absorber that we go with it in the well of that science

I have always liked chess

by babak-dadvar

I have always liked chess but I was  not professional enough to play chess in real time .so for many years I just regret that I cant play chess but accidentally about 1 month ago I find out that I can play correspondent chess and so my dream comes to real, I CAN PLAY CHESS. You know maybe our lives are like a chessboard ,people should think about their lives ,but actually not every one can win just like on the chessboard, you shouldn't be professional ,you can be amateur  but play with patience , and wisely, maybe you lose in some games but you are actually make your future by making  steps to the salvation. Some people choose to be check mate in their lives and some people fight till the end. I like chess because I want to be.It's kind of challenging.

For me chess represents the ability to think

by Crazyberzerk

For me chess represents the ability to think of strategys and use your mind which could implement into the real word. I also think that it represents a fun activity that both adults and children can participate in. It's one of the few things that you can do that is good for your intellectually growing mind but is at the same time a game you can enjoy. I also think that chess represents life because there will be countless battles or problems in your life that is difficult but you will have to be able to overcome it. One last thing i think represents is patience because although you want everything to come very quickly and efficiently, in some scenarios you may have to adapt to it, such as chess in which no matter what you do you can't "make" the opponent move faster.
-I hope you enjoyed!
