Chess represents many things for me

by rico1960

Chess represents many things for me, it represents the greatest individual challenge against a man or computer and nothing gets your adrenalin going like when you mate a person with a higher rating that you.   It is the opportunity to enter into the international arena and it is really an online Olympic game as you travel to all countries and defeat opponents-hopefully-and make new acquaintances.  It is like a war game between two opponents and each one is trying to avoid that one oversight or under sight that will lead to defeat-and when you slip it is like falling off a cliff and not being able to get back on solid ground as you see your opponent on hi s way to victory.  It represents many satisfying and at time regretful hours of pleasure or pain-when you lose.  However, the next victory erases the bitter taste and thoughts as you determine not to move to fast or deviate from your strategy-you feel ... Chess represents an opportunity to challenge oneself in an arena of strategy

by ellitech

Chess represents an opportunity to challenge oneself in an arena of strategy and wit. It pit's your intellect against the intellect of another. It is also a chance to expand your thinking and learn to be analytical as well as learn to think 'outside of the box'. No matter how strong your chess game is, there is always someone, somewhere who is able to elevate their to even greater heights than yours...

I started playing chess when i was 8 years old

by anil81

I started playing chess when i was 8 years old , the first chessboard i got was from my cousin who was completely aloof to the game and had little or no enthusiasm at all for the game.

I asked him quite jokingly if he would keep it as a "SHOW PIECE " i would rather borrow it from him and make some good use out of it.

For me if you have something and do not use it , it is as good as not having it.

I got my first lesson of thed game from my dad and it was fun.

I enjoyed it quite a lot and remember trying to lure anyone who use ... Read more >>>

chess game - I love this game

by lvivmyroslav

First of all I want to apologize for the mistakes in this letter. English is not my first language. :-(

I started playing chess rather late. I've learned the rules of the game at 7, but I didn't like it. I was fond of football at that time. Everything changed when I was 18. I've entered the university and saw how one professor played chess with his student. Almost 10 years have past but I still remember that day as clearly as if it occured yesteday. The student was sitting at the desk alone with the chessboard and the professor stood near the window with his back to chess, so he could not see the board. He played blind with his student and had won that game. I was shocked. How did he play?! How did he manage to win?! On that very day I promised myself to learn how to play chess like that professor. In 3 years I could play with him without the board. And for almost 10 years from that day I play chess. Almost everyday.
What does chess represent to me? It's simple ... Read more >>>

Chess to me represents an intricate puzzle

by jcast711

Chess to me represents an intricate puzzle that is challenging and fun to figure out and solve that keeps the brain active and sharp.  It is a very logical and mathematical game that involves strategy and different patterns of offense and defensive play.  No two games are ever alike and there are almost endless possibilities of moves.  It is just as much of a game of controlling your opponents pieces as it is controlling your own.  Short and sweet, just like the words, Check and Mate.

I will not write endless pages to prove the greatness of chess

by Delomelanicon

What does the Immortal Game represent to my mind? I will not write endless pages to prove the greatness of chess. I should think it enough to say that it is at its best a transcendental artform, at worst, a mere therapy for bored minds. For those who, like myself, suffer from inflated minds, this 'game' as it passes in vulgar circles, in which so little is understood and less attempted, chess is an exercise in humility. It is equally clear that its merit is of infinite proportions, since no human being can ever hope to perfect his technique in chess. I will write of the beginning of my days as a chess player, when first I discovered those wooden pieces that appear so magical in the power they give their holder! The story is simple enough, quite common and unremarkable: I learned to play from a man I have long forgotten when I was six years old. The teacher was not good, since his days of study extended to the most mundane chess aphorisms imaginable; he thought, for example, that the ... Read more >>>

change to your chess site because it has a very modern

by VikingRook

Chesshere replaced my old chess site. I was playing at ChessWorld.net.

I made the change to your chess site because it has a very modern look and feel. Other chess sites add bits and pieces here and there and end up being too complicated. ChessHere had the guts to start from scratch and by doing so has ended up with an environment that beats the rest!

I would have already bought membership but the other half only allows me a certain number of subscriptions per year... I will have to put up with 5 games in 24 hours for another 6 months.
