I play chess because I enjoy the challenge of forcing your opponent into making moves that you want them to make.  It is rewarding to play a match in which you are evenly pitted against someone else, and you play waiting for the other person to make either a mental mistake or they "blink."  At that point in the game it is up to you to take advantage and press home your victory.  Chess is generally not a forgiving mistress when you make mistakes.  It helps me to be better disciplined in my thinking, my concentration on tasks, and in forseeing possible consequences to actions taken in the present.
