I just joined Chesshere and had the same incident happen in my first real time game. I got my opponent into a position where I had mate on the next move, and he obviously knew it. It was a timed one hour game, and he had about 25 minutes left, and he just....left. I put in the comment next to the game that he had only two moves, both of which would be mate on the next move by me, and he simply abandoned the game. A gentleman (or woman) would simply resign.

i have been playing here for over a yr and just had a similar situation.i accepted a 30 min ,no tyme restrictions game from a player rated 350 points higher than me.half way thru game i got him in a situation where its mate in one.he refused to move and i had to wait till his tyme expired to win.to advoid this situation i put tyme restrainsts on all my challenges. It happens.there are more poor sports on here than we would like.can not control that.just deal with it.had another player recently who called me names.another one who asked me not to chat.didnt mute chat as he could do,instead tried to censor me.i simply tell these people no and quit the game and move on.these types of people are not worth playing.

I am having a problem with people getting more time than me. It's like I will be wining the game. Then my time will be going down and there time will be going up.

I've been playing at this site for several years now and players timing-out their games instead of resigning happened quite often. It certainly leaves a bad taste but it can't be helped. Instead of putting a ban on them...a better way is avoid playing with them. That way, they just might realize that playing chess is not just about playing the game and winning but also being a gracious loser as well... Well, that's my thought about the matter.
