Hi all,

I am doing a little survey here to determine what you guys like better as far as RTC tournaments go.

There are several things we can do with the organization of tournaments.

We can set up rated/unrated tournaments with knockout/round robin settings.

We can also do 1, 2, 3, 5, 10, and 15 minute intervals for both knockout and round robin tournaments.

What do you guys prefer? Comment your opinion below.

Thanks,

I personally do not think that anything under 3 minutes is a real chess game.

It is not how well you can play chess, it is how fast you can make bad moves. Making bad moves takes precious seconds to determine how to take advantage in the game - and the person who was a piece up, or had a winning position usually loses on time because he was thinking...

I think if we were able to eliminate the \"rotation\" in the tournaments, then we could just have several tournaments with all different time controls.

What I\'m saying is that we could have a 10 minute tournaments slot. When one is filled, another 10 minute tournament is put out there. Same thing for 1, 2, 3, 5, and 15 minute tournaments.

Yeah, your boss... the Owner needs to change his setup. I have told him thos and many other things that need to be foxed, but he is silent.

I believe the shorter format of the game is necessary for the enjoyment. With regards to the intervals,I don\'t think this is needed as most of the time, the players that finish their game first already receive a short break whilst they wait for the other games to finish.

Over the past 6 months I was sent many messages asking why we did not simply put 1 tournament up with 2-3 min time controls and have the other one with 5-10 min time controls?

I agree with all of you who have been asking me to do that, and in fact, used my administrative position to make it happen nearly every day.

However, a simple change in the way the tournaments are set up by the owner would make this happen and an administrator would not have to redo the tournaments every day.

As you are all aware, I quit as an administrator because I was getting the heat for not fixing these problems. So I will not be changing anything from now on.

However, I have gotten to know EPPR very well over the last 2 years and he has my full respect. Maybe he can accomplish things that I could not. I hope so, because even though I am withdrawing from Chesshere, I do not hold any bad feelings against the site, and it does have potential!

I think EPPR and Sunboy15 are right
Some tourney players prefer one time control, others dont mind, so there will a balance.
Worth trying anyway.

The new owners are working on reviving RTC tournaments. So I would like to hear from our members what they want?

5 min tournaments?
10 min tournaments?

Is it important to you that you hear a sound when you move your piece?

I am working with the programmer and the new owners to give our members the most of what they want. Everything is going at a positive note right now. Here's your chance to let us know what is important to you?

EPPR is back!

He will be working on promoting the forums and trouble shooting the system with me and our programmer. We are currently working on improving the Real Time chess and will then move on to making Real Time chess tournaments which for some reason does not work anymore. But bare with us while we fix all these problems - it just takes time.

Yeah, I love this guy. I know I'm bragging him up, but he deserves all the credit for his hard work.

After the owner gave him an upgrade to 'administrator' status he went into Chesshere's Active Team program and DELETED all Teams that have been DEAD over 4 yrs!

Why did he do that? Because these teams were currently listed as 'ACTIVE' which means that our members were trying to join a team that there has been NO ACTIVITY for over 4 years!

NOW, our members can log into the 'Active Teams' and choose to join one of them.

Thanks EPPR! You are the greatest. :)

I was sent a message from the owner that when we tested the new RTC tournament it failed to start the games.

Sorry guys, but it was a test that needed to be performed for our programmer. The owner says she will take the RTC tournament down until the programmer can see what went wrong.

BTW - I also was stuck in a RTC game when I accepted a game from a person and then instead of clinking on the "Start game" logo he just sat there!

If this happens to you and you are running under a Windows platform then do the following:

1) Hold down the <ctrl> and <alt> keys with your left hand and then hit the <delete> key with the right.

2) Click on 'Start Task Manager'.

3) For those of you who know what you are doing go to 'Applications' and close the 'RTC' options.

4) If you do not know what you are doing then click on 'Users', select the active user and then click on 'log out' or 'disconnect', depending on which version is shown to you. You should be able to log back in and everything should be reset. If it isn't then you have to do the sequence over and reboot your computer!

5) One more very important thing! Lock the person out from playing you who did this to you!

** THANKS, abbyknot for the info to get out of a stuck game when the other person doesn't start. We are working on removing the need to have the opponent press the START button to begin, which would solve this problem. Great suggestion by abbyknot that we are implementing. We will keep you posted on that and in the meantime if anyone gets stuck, see comment above for solution!**

Thanks, LerouxJP for working with me and that stuck tournament so I could gather all the facts. That helped alot, now we just have to see what happens when all 4 are there at same time. Programmer is also looking into it as well in hopes of finding something so we can have a flawless test next time. LOVE LOVE how everyone is so helpful! THANK YOU ALL!-
