Let it not be our fate
to succumb to checkmate

3Canada  HenriDeToi2017-05-27 18:30:39
And no one gets mad
And for that I am glad

Me, too.
Why get in
A stew?

If you ask for a pony
Thinking anything is free
And you\'re such a bigwig
You may end up with a guinea pig

Be they long or short,
Poems about chess
Of any sort
Leave me just breathless

William Shakespeare — 'Good night, good night! parting is such sweet sorrow, That I shall say good night till it be morrow.'-

I must get it off my chest
I just don't know how to play chess
I know I will never beat'em
So I may as well write a poem.

win or lose
verse or mate
we must excuse
our laureate

i have a theory
not for the weary
first it'll implode
then it'll explode
and go all eerie

13Canada  HenriDeToi2017-09-07 13:37:21
According to me
Most probably your theory
Will unfold to a tee
And become part of history

14United  neverherebefore2017-09-08 11:12:23
You should all know.
I always rhyme.

when poetry's
not easy
come and stare
at henri's

Parlez-vous de moi
Henri DeToi
Voulez-vous être courtois
Ou vous riez de moi

17Canada dsuttles is online dsuttlesChessHere Moderator2017-09-11 15:29:18

18Canada  HenriDeToi2017-09-11 16:27:40

(tomorrow is Burns Night!)

Address to a Haggis

Fair fa' your honest, sonsie face,
Great chieftain o the puddin'-race!
Aboon them a' ye tak your place,
Painch, tripe, or thairm:
Weel are ye worthy o' a grace
As lang's my arm.

The groaning trencher there ye fill,
Your hurdies like a distant hill,
Your pin wad help to mend a mill
In time o need,
While thro your pores the dews distil
Like amber bead.

His knife see rustic Labour dight,
An cut you up wi ready slight,
Trenching your gushing entrails bright,
Like onie ditch;
And then, O what a glorious sight,
Warm-reekin, rich!

Then, horn for horn, they stretch an strive:
Deil tak the hindmost, on they drive,
Till a' their weel-swall'd kytes belyve
Are bent like drums;
The auld Guidman, maist like to rive,
'Bethankit' hums.

Is there that owre his French ragout,
Or olio that wad staw a sow,
Or fricassee wad mak her spew
Wi perfect scunner,
Looks down wi sneering, scornfu view
On sic a dinner?

Poor devil! see him owre his trash,
As feckless as a wither'd rash,
His spindle shank a guid whip-lash,
His nieve a nit;
Thro bloody flood or field to dash,
O how unfit!

But mark the Rustic, haggis-fed,
The trembling earth resounds his tread,
Clap in his walie nieve a blade,
He'll make it whissle;
An legs an arms, an heads will sned,
Like taps o thrissle.

Ye Pow'rs, wha mak mankind your care,
And dish them out their bill o fare,
Auld Scotland wants nae skinking ware
That jaups in luggies:
But, if ye wish her gratefu prayer,
Gie her a Haggis
