Manuel Sureni Petrosyan is an Armenian Grandmaster born on May 6, 1998, in Stepanakert. Representing the Armenian Chess Federation (ARM), Petrosyan has established himself as a prominent tournament professional and a key member of the Armenian national team. He was awarded the International Master title in 2014 and achieved the Grandmaster title in 2017. Petrosyan reached a career-high classical FIDE rating of 2638 in May 2022. He is a two-time Armenian National Champion (2022 and 2026), an Olympiad silver medalist, and a former World Youth Champion.

Manuel Petrosyan’s chess development began in the junior ranks of Armenia, where he consistently performed at the top level of national and continental youth events. He earned his Candidate Master title in 2012, followed by the FIDE Master title in early 2014.
Petrosyan completed his final requirements for the International Master title in October 2014 at the age of 16. His IM norms were earned at the Pan-Armenian Olympiad in Yerevan (August 2010), the Moscow Open A (February 2012), and the European Individual Chess Championship (2014). He secured a fourth norm in Perm in May 2014.
Petrosyan's junior career was highlighted by several international successes:
- In 2015, he finished as the runner-up in the European Under-18 Championship.
- In 2016, he won the Under-18 World Youth Chess Championship in Khanty-Mansiysk.

He expanded his international presence by winning the 3rd Maharashtra Grandmaster Open in Pune, India, in May 2025, where he defeated Ayush Sharma in the final round to secure the title. Petrosyan has also served as a second to elite compatriot Levon Aronian, assisting him during the 2019 St. Louis Rapid & Blitz and the 2019 Sinquefield Cup.
Domestically, Petrosyan clinched his first Armenian Chess Championship in January 2022, scoring 8/11 to finish clear first. He secured his second national championship in January 2026 at the Tigran Petrosian Chess House in Yerevan, scoring 6/9 and sealing the title with a critical final-round victory over Arsen Davtyan.
