Bogdan-Daniel Deac (born October 8, 2001) is a Romanian chess grandmaster and a leading representative of Romania's chess scene. Born in Râmnicu Vâlcea, Romania, he represents the Romanian Chess Federation (ROU). Recognized as a youth prodigy, Deac earned his International Master (IM) title in 2014 at the age of 12 years, 10 months, and 15 days, and became a Grandmaster (GM) in 2016 at the age of 14 years, 7 months, and 27 days, making him the youngest grandmaster in Romanian chess history at the time. He crossed the 2700 FIDE rating barrier for the first time in September 2022, reaching his career-high classical rating of 2710 and placing as World No. 34. Deac is a two-time Romanian National Champion (2021, 2026) and a mainstay on the Romanian national team, representing his federation at multiple Chess Olympiads and European Team Championships.

Deac began playing chess at the age of seven under the guidance of Ioan Varlan. He quickly rose through the junior ranks, establishing himself as one of the leading chess talents in Europe.

He met his mandatory FIDE rating qualification of 2300 in March 2014, earning his FIDE Master (FM) title. In 2014, he secured his three International Master (IM) norms in quick succession: his first at the Gibraltar Masters, his second with a 7.5/11 score at the Romanian National Championship in May, and his final norm at the 29th Schwarzach Open in Austria in August. Having already reached the 2400 rating threshold in July, his IM title was officially ratified on August 23, 2014, making him the youngest active IM in the world at the time.

Deac’s progression to Grandmaster was completed within a year, earning his three GM norms as follows:

At the 2017 Tradewise Gibraltar Chess Festival, a 15-year-old Deac finished in the top 25 of the open field. In April 2021, he captured his first Romanian National Championship title. Later that year, at the 2021 FIDE Grand Swiss in Riga, he tied for 4th–16th places with an undefeated score of 7/11.

Deac's rating reached its peak of 2710 in September 2022. In 2023, he continued competing in elite events, including invitations to the Grand Chess Tour as a local wildcard for the Superbet Chess Classic Romania in Bucharest. He competed in the Chess World Cup 2023, defeating Pablo Ismael Acosta in the second round before falling to Nihal Sarin.

In March 2024, Deac won the Reykjavik Open outright as the top seed, finishing on a score of 7.5/9 with a final-round victory over GM Alisher Suleymenov. In February 2026, he secured his second Romanian National Championship in Timișoara, finishing undefeated with a score of 7.5/9.
