Biography & Major Career Milestones
Yuffa distinguished himself early in youth competition, winning the Russian rapid chess championship in his age category three times (U10 in 2007, U12 in 2009, and U14 in 2010). In continental junior championships, he finished equal second in the 2007 European U10 Championship, runner-up in the 2014 European U18 Championship, and tied for second in the 2015 European U18 Championship. In 2016, FIDE officially conferred his Grandmaster title. In September 2017, Yuffa gained wider public recognition by appearing on the Russian television talent show "Amazing People," where he successfully played three blindfold simultaneous chess games while performing classical music on the piano.
His transition to senior competition saw steady rating gains. In March 2018, Yuffa placed 13th at the European Individual Chess Championship, scoring 7.5/11 (+5–1=5). At the 2019 FIDE World Cup in Khanty-Mansiysk, playing as the 106th seed, Yuffa registered major upsets by defeating 23rd seed David Navara in the first round and 42nd seed Luke McShane in the second round, before being eliminated in the third round by 10th seed Teimour Radjabov. In early 2020, he shared first place at the Gibraltar Masters open before being eliminated in the semifinal playoff by Wang Hao. He won the Karpov Trophy in Cap d'Agde and the Roquetas de Mar Festival in 2021, the latter with a score of 7.5/9.
Following his federation transfer to Spain in October 2021, Yuffa finished as runner-up in both the classical and blitz Spanish Championships in 2022. In December 2024, Yuffa claimed his maiden Spanish National Championship title in Marbella, finishing undefeated in sole first place with 7.5/9, which included a critical penultimate-round victory against Alexei Shirov and a final-round draw with David Antón. In March 2025, Yuffa led the European Individual Chess Championship for much of the event before ultimately finishing in fourth place. This string of performances propelled him to his peak FIDE rating of 2657 in June 2025. In early 2026, Yuffa finished 10th in the Tata Steel Challengers and secured 2nd place at the Prague International Chess Festival Challengers.

Playing Style, Material Tendencies & Endgame Profiling
Yuffa displays a highly universal and technical playing style shaped by the computer-assisted era. While tactical and capable of calculating complex dynamic lines, his strategic foundation prioritizes long-term positional pressure, space accumulation, and the slow conversion of microscopic structural advantages. He maintains a highly resilient defensive identity, with a proven ability to construct stubborn defenses in passive or slightly inferior positions.
In terms of material preferences, Yuffa is highly proficient at utilizing the bishop pair and extracting play from structural imbalances such as isolated queen pawns or doubled pawns, provided his pieces remain active. He excels in the transition from opening to middlegame, often entering queenless middlegames where his positional understanding is maximized. In the endgame, he is characterized by highly accurate technical execution, particularly in active rook endings and setups utilizing passed pawns.
Opening Repertoire & Theoretical Move Orders
Yuffa possesses a structured and theoretically dense opening repertoire, leaning heavily on the Catalan and English structures as White, while employing the Caro-Kann and the Alekhine as his primary weapons against 1.e4.

Yuffa's first-move choice heavily favors closed systems, utilizing 1.d4 or 1.c4 to reach his preferred Catalan configurations.

- Open Variation:
-
The English Opening: Often used to sidestep main-line theoretical systems or transpose into reversed Sicilian and Catalan setups.

- Advance Variation (Bayonet Attack / 4.g4):
