Overview

Di Li (born December 15, 1999) is a Chinese chess Grandmaster representing the Chinese Chess Federation (CHN). He was officially awarded the Grandmaster (GM) title by FIDE in 2019. He achieved his career-high classical FIDE rating of 2581 in June 2021. Di Li is an elite professional tournament and team player, best known for winning the World Under-14 Championship and representing China in major international team competitions.

Biography & Major Career Milestones

Di Li established himself early as a prominent junior talent, winning the World Under-14 Youth Chess Championship in 2013 in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates. Following his steady development, he fulfilled the requirements for the Grandmaster title, which FIDE officially ratified in 2019.

On the national stage, Di Li has consistently contended for top honors in the highly competitive Chinese Chess Championship. In May 2021, he finished 3rd in the Chinese Chess Championship, tying the score with Yu Yangyi and Wei Yi but placing behind them on Sonneborn–Berger tiebreaks. He achieved another top national result in November 2022, finishing 4th in the Chinese Chess Championship.

In international open tournament play, Di Li has registered significant successes. In January 2025, he won the 36th Roquetas de Mar Open in Spain with an undefeated score of 7.5/9. He has also competed extensively in prestigious international events, including the Sunway Sitges Open, the Rilton Cup, the Prague International Open, and the Menorca Open.

• FIDE World Team Chess Championship (2022): Represented China on Board 4 in Jerusalem, Israel. Di Li played an instrumental role in securing the gold medal for China. He scored 3.5 points in the first four rounds of the group stage, keeping the team undefeated. In the final against Uzbekistan, he scored the decisive win against IM Ortik Nigmatov in the second match, clinching the overall world team title for a Chinese lineup of "unknowns" alongside Lu Shanglei, Xu Xiangyu, and Bai Jinshi.
• Chinese Chess League / Chinese Team Championship: Frequently represents Chengdu Chess Club (成都棋院) in national team events, including a solid performance in the 2026 Chinese Chess Team Championship.
