Overview
Mukhammadzokhid Suyarov (born 2009) is an Uzbekistani chess player representing the Uzbekistan chess federation. Awarded the FIDE International Master (IM) title in 2024, Suyarov is a competitive tournament player and rapid/blitz specialist who is part of the strong contemporary generation of Uzbekistani chess talents. He achieved his career-high classical FIDE rating of 2534 in May 2026. He is best known as the 2025 FIDE World Junior Rapid Champion.
Biography & Major Career Milestones
Suyarov's ascent in international chess began with strong junior performances. In August 2023, at the Uralsk Open in Kazakhstan, he scored a major upset by defeating American Grandmaster Hans Niemann.
In June 2024, he competed in the Category XI UzChess Cup Futures in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. He finished tied for second place (fourth on tiebreaks) with a score of 5.5/9, defeating four grandmasters during the event: Sergei Tiviakov, Bardiya Daneshvar, Vitaliy Bernadskiy, and Mihail Nikitenko. Later that year, FIDE officially approved his International Master (IM) title.
Suyarov experienced a breakout year in 2025. In February, he finished in third place at the Chessable Masters Qualifier to secure a spot in the play-in stage. In April, he placed fourth at the Asian Zonal 3.4 Championship in Almaty, Kazakhstan, which earned him a qualification spot for the 2025 FIDE World Cup. At the World Cup, he was defeated in the first round by Azerbaijani Grandmaster Nijat Abasov.
In September 2025, Suyarov won the FIDE World Junior Rapid Chess Championship (Open U20) in Lima, Peru, with a score of 7.5/9, clinching the gold medal with a final-round victory over Juan Jose Cano Alcaraz. He followed this achievement with a bronze medal in the subsequent World Junior Blitz Championship. In October and November 2025, he competed in the FIDE Grand Swiss in Douglas, Isle of Man, where he scored 4.0/11, including a notable victory over Grandmaster Bassem Amin.
In April 2026, Suyarov won the Grenke Chess Open (A-Open) in Karlsruhe, Germany, on tiebreaks after finishing undefeated on 8.0/9, ahead of Dominik Horvath and Chongsheng Zeng.

- FIDE World Youth U16 Chess Olympiad (2025): Represented Uzbekistan on Board 1 in Barranquilla, Colombia. He scored 7/9 to earn the individual silver medal on Board 1, with his performance featuring a draw against Grandmaster Ivan Zemlyanskii.

Suyarov plays with a universal, concrete style typical of modern, engine-assisted players. He demonstrates strong tactical awareness coupled with structured positional play. His middlegames often rely on maintaining and converting space advantages, yet he exhibits the defensive calculation necessary to hold slightly inferior positions.
Suyarov's technical endgame play is a key strength. He shows high accuracy in active king placement and has successfully converted minor-piece and rook endgames by targeting pawn weaknesses and maintaining active pieces.
