Alexandr Aleksandrovich Predke is a Russian-born Grandmaster who officially represents the Serbian Chess Federation (SRB). Born on January 5, 1994, Predke was awarded the Grandmaster title by FIDE in 2016. He achieved his career-high classical FIDE rating of 2696 in November 2020, positioning him among the top 50 players in the world. Predke is predominantly a world-class tournament competitor and a formidable team player, having established himself in the elite Swiss-system open circuit, national team championships, and European individual and team events.

Biography & Major Career Milestones

Predke began playing chess at the age of seven in his hometown of Dimitrovgrad, Russia. Recognizing his talent when he reached a rating of approximately 2200 at age 14, his family enrolled him in the specialized Tolyatti chess school, where he relocated in July 2009. Under the primary tutelage of Grandmaster Yakov Geller, alongside instructions from GM Yuri Yakovich and IM Boris Abrashkin, Predke progressed rapidly. In 2010, he won the Russian Under-16 Youth Chess Championship. He followed this with a third-place finish in the Russian Under-20 Junior Championship in 2014.

Predke completed the requirements for his Grandmaster title in 2016, securing his norms at the 18th Voronezh International Tournament (2014), the Chigorin Memorial (2014), the Jelez University 75th Anniversary Tournament (2014), and the Aeroflot Open in Moscow (2016).

His transition to adult elite tournament chess was marked by strong showings, including a second-place finish at the Lev Polugaevsky Memorial in Samara (2017) and third place at the Riga Technical University Open "A" tournament in August 2018. At the 2019 European Individual Chess Championship in Skopje, Predke finished in 20th place with 7.5/11, qualifying him for the 2019 FIDE World Cup, where he defeated Alexei Sarana in the first round before being eliminated by Ian Nepomniachtchi.

Predke broke into the world's top 100 players in September 2019 and reached his peak rating of 2696 in late 2020. At the 2021 Russian Championship Superfinal, he tied for 4th–7th place. Soon after, he secured a major breakthrough at the FIDE Chess.com Grand Swiss 2021 in Riga, finishing 7th with 7/11 (+5 -2 =4), which qualified him directly for the FIDE Grand Prix 2022.

In May 2022, following the geopolitical events surrounding the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Predke chose to play under the neutral FIDE flag. He later officially transferred his federation registration to Serbia in March 2023. Continuing his competitive streak, Predke won the Svetozar Gligoric Memorial Masters in July 2022. At the FIDE Grand Swiss 2023 on the Isle of Man, Predke fought at the top tables and entered the final round in a multi-way tie for first place, ultimately finishing just outside the podium after a decisive loss to tournament winner Vidit Gujrathi. In July 2025, Predke captured the championship title at the highly competitive Serbia Open Masters in Belgrade, scoring 7/9 to win the event on tiebreaks.
