Overview

Rudik Yurikovich Makarian is a FIDE-registered grandmaster (GM) born on July 30, 2004, in Alatumani, Georgia. Makarian represented the Russian Chess Federation during his junior career before transferring to the FIDE (FID) flag. He attained the International Master (IM) title in 2019 and was awarded the Grandmaster (GM) title in 2025. He achieved his peak classical FIDE rating of 2562 in January 2023. Makarian's competitive identity is defined as an elite tournament professional, national and continental junior champion, and a highly formidable rapid and blitz specialist.

Makarian spent his formative chess years developing within the Russian junior system, coached by Jakov Geller. In October 2019, he won the Under-16 World Youth Chess Championship in Mumbai, India, which coincided with his FIDE confirmation as an International Master. In 2020, he secured the Russian Junior Chess Championship (U21) in Moscow.

In November 2022, he achieved another major international junior title by winning the European Youth Chess Championship in the Under-18 category.
