He reached a career-high classical FIDE rating of 2598 in October 2024. Minh is widely recognized as a highly formidable over-the-board tournament competitor, an individual bronze medalist at the 2024 FIDE Chess Olympiad, and one of the world's premier online speed chess specialists, frequently dominating blitz and bullet leaderboards under his online handle "wonderfultime".
Biography & Major Career Milestones
Lê Tuấn Minh grew up in Hanoi, Vietnam, and began playing chess at the age of eight at the 10-10 Sports School. He quickly established himself as a prodigy in the regional youth circuit, earning his FIDE Master title in 2010 after sharing first place in the Under-14 category at the 11th ASEAN+ Age Group Chess Championship.
Minh's rise to national prominence was highlighted by his sensational victory at the 2015 Vietnamese National Chess Championship. Entering the tournament as an FM, he outplayed a field of established grandmasters and international masters to secure the national crown. This performance coincided with him earning the International Master title in September 2015.
Alongside his pursuit of professional chess, Minh maintained a demanding academic career, studying law and graduating from the Hanoi University of Law in 2020. Although academic commitments limited his classical over-the-board tournament activity during his university years, he remained highly active in online arenas. He established a global reputation as a speed-chess specialist on Chess.com (as "wonderfultime") and Lichess (as "mutdpro"), consistently maintaining peak blitz and bullet ratings and claiming multiple weekly Chess.com Titled Tuesday tournament victories.
In October 2020, Minh won his second Vietnamese Chess Championship with an undefeated score of 7/8. Having secured his first two Grandmaster norms in 2017 and 2018 respectively, he earned his third and final GM norm in July 2022 at the 50th Annual World Open in Philadelphia, USA. Having crossed the required 2500 Elo threshold, FIDE officially awarded him the Grandmaster title in 2022, making him Vietnam's 13th Grandmaster.
Minh's classical rating climbed steadily, peaking at 2598 in October 2024. In November 2025, Minh represented Vietnam at the 1st Asian Intellectual Sports Games in Singapore, capturing the individual Gold Medal in the rapid chess division with an undefeated score of 8/9 (+7 =2 -0).
Elite Team & Event Performance
- 45th FIDE Chess Olympiad (2024, Budapest): Representing Vietnam on Board 3, Minh delivered a spectacular, career-defining performance. Over 11 rounds, he went entirely undefeated, scoring 8.5/11 (+6 =5 -0) to claim the individual bronze medal on Board 3 with a tournament performance rating of 2795. His performance was a key catalyst in Vietnam's upsets of major federations, featuring critical victories over GM Javokhir Sindarov (2677) of Uzbekistan, GM Luke McShane (2611) of England, and GM Aryan Tari of Norway.
- 2025 Asian Intellectual Sports Games (Singapore): Representing Vietnam in the Rapid Chess category, Minh secured the individual Gold Medal by scoring 8/9 (+7 =2 -0), defeating established GMs such as Susanto Megaranto and Dai Changren.
Playing Style, Material Tendencies & Endgame Profiling
Lê Tuấn Minh operates as a highly pragmatic, concrete, computer-era calculator, a style heavily refined by his extensive experience in elite online blitz and bullet chess. His game is defined by tactical sharpness, quick calculation of concrete variations, and an exceptional ability to maintain poise under time pressure.
Minh displays a highly active approach to king safety, often entering complex, double-edged middlegames where his piece activity and initiative outweigh structural deficiencies. Rather than aiming for passive defense, Minh favors active counter-play and is highly skilled at finding resource-rich tactical defensive setups in worse positions.
He is comfortable handling material imbalances and has a keen intuitive sense for dynamic exchange sacrifices to break an opponent's coordination or seize key square complexes. While his tactical capabilities are paramount, his over-the-board play at the 2024 Olympiad highlighted a mature technical endgame profile. He is highly capable of grinding out small advantages in rook endgames and converting dynamic advantages through precise calculation of passed pawns.

-

-
