Playing Style, Material Tendencies & Endgame Profiling
Tarlev is an accomplished, universal grandmaster whose game is built on a solid positional foundation combined with concrete, engine-era calculation. He shows a high degree of flexibility, maintaining composure in complex middlegames and keeping structural weaknesses to a minimum unless compensated by immediate activity. Defensively, Tarlev is resilient in passive or slightly inferior positions, utilizing active piece play to disrupt his opponent's coordination. His technical conversion of endgame advantages is highly developed, particularly in active rook endgames and minor-piece endgames, which has made him an exceptionally reliable and high-scoring team player on lower boards in club championships.
Opening Repertoire & Theoretical Move Orders
Tarlev’s opening repertoire is theoretically structured and robust. As White, his primary move is 1.e4, where he frequently steers the game toward sound strategic positions. As Black, he counters 1.e4 with active, asymmetric Sicilian systems and relies on classic, solid defenses against 1.d4.
1. As White
Against the Sicilian Defense, Tarlev frequently employs the Rossolimo and Canal-Sokolsky attacks to bypass deep mainline open theories while maintaining positional pressure.
