Playing Style, Material Tendencies & Endgame Profiling
Sethuraman is a concrete, calculation-oriented player who thrives on complexity, deep opening preparation, and sharp tactical skirmishes. Former World Champion Viswanathan Anand has described his play as meticulous, noting his ability to navigate highly complex positions.
His treatment of space advantages and structures is highly concrete. In the middlegame, he is willing to compromise his own pawn structure or accept structural weaknesses if it grants his pieces active lines of attack or restricts his opponent's coordination. He is known to coordinate aggressive kingside pawn storms or castle long to set up dynamic attacks.
In endgames, Sethuraman relies on active king activity and direct coordinate play. He transitions effectively from sharp, theoretical openings into queenless middlegames or active major-piece endgames, where his calculation speed remains a core asset.
