Biography & Major Career Milestones
Predke began playing chess at the age of seven in his hometown of Dimitrovgrad, Russia. Recognizing his talent when he reached a rating of approximately 2200 at age 14, his family enrolled him in the specialized Tolyatti chess school, where he relocated in July 2009. Under the primary tutelage of Grandmaster Yakov Geller, alongside instructions from GM Yuri Yakovich and IM Boris Abrashkin, Predke progressed rapidly. In 2010, he won the Russian Under-16 Youth Chess Championship. He followed this with a third-place finish in the Russian Under-20 Junior Championship in 2014.
Predke completed the requirements for his Grandmaster title in 2016, securing his norms at the 18th Voronezh International Tournament (2014), the Chigorin Memorial (2014), the Jelez University 75th Anniversary Tournament (2014), and the Aeroflot Open in Moscow (2016).
His transition to adult elite tournament chess was marked by strong showings, including a second-place finish at the Lev Polugaevsky Memorial in Samara (2017) and third place at the Riga Technical University Open "A" tournament in August 2018. At the 2019 European Individual Chess Championship in Skopje, Predke finished in 20th place with 7.5/11, qualifying him for the 2019 FIDE World Cup, where he defeated Alexei Sarana in the first round before being eliminated by Ian Nepomniachtchi.

Playing Style, Material Tendencies & Endgame Profiling
Predke is a classical player with a highly dynamic, concrete calculating style that incorporates deep home preparation typical of the computer-assisted generation. His tactical vision is particularly sharp in complex middlegame positions with fragmented pawn structures. He demonstrates a high degree of resourcefulness under pressure and is capable of launching devastating kingside attacks when given the opportunity, such as his tactical miniature victory over Jan-Krzysztof Duda at the 2023 Grand Swiss, which featured a thematic knight sacrifice on h5:
.Predke shows a strong command over complex pawn structures, notably Carlsbad structures arising from both White and Black sides of Queen's Pawn openings. He maintains a pragmatic defensive identity, remaining calm in double-edged structures and utilizing tactical counters to hold marginally worse positions. In endgames, Predke shows high technical proficiency in active rook endings and queenless middlegames, utilizing precise king activity and piece coordination to salvage draws or convert small, grinding positional advantages.
Opening Repertoire & Theoretical Move Orders
1. As White
Predke relies on a versatile first-move repertoire, frequently alternating between 1.e4 and 1.d4, while occasionally employing 1.c4 to bypass heavy theoretical mainlines.
Against the Sicilian Defense, he is prepared to contest highly theoretical mainlines, especially the Najdorf:
He also frequently deploys the Closed Sicilian when seeking a more positional, slow-burning maneuvering struggle:
When playing 1.d4, Predke often encounters the Nimzo-Indian Defense, where he has notably explored the Three Knights / Duchamp Variation:
2. As Black
Predke's Black repertoire is deeply theoretical, aiming for complex but solid structures that allow for active counterplay.
Against 1.e4, he regularly employs the Caro-Kann Defense, comfortable with defending the structural imbalances of the Exchange Variation:
He also defends the Advance Variation of the Caro-Kann:
In the Open Games, he maintains a reliable Ruy Lopez setup, particularly utilizing solid classical variations:
Against 1.d4, Predke's main defensive weapon is the Queen's Gambit Declined, with a strong preference for the active and highly tactical Ragozin Variation:
Against 1.c4, he frequently steers the game toward Symmetrical English structures to establish central parity:
