Ediz Gürel is a Turkish chess prodigy and grandmaster born on December 5, 2008. Representing the Turkish Chess Federation (TUR), Gürel attained the International Master (IM) title in 2022 and the Grandmaster (GM) title in 2024. He reached a career-high classical FIDE rating of 2652 in July 2025. Primarily known as an exceptionally strong tournament player, Turkish Olympiad representative, and elite junior competitor, he is widely regarded as one of the foremost talents of the modern computer-analytical generation.

Born in Bursa, Turkey, Gürel began playing chess at the age of seven. His rapid rise through the junior ranks became prominent internationally in 2022 when he secured second place in the Under-14 category of the European Youth Championship in Antalya, scoring 7.5/9.

In June 2023, Gürel surpassed the 2500 FIDE classical rating mark. In March 2024, at the age of 15, he achieved his third and final Grandmaster norm by winning the Prague Chess Festival Challengers tournament undefeated with a score of 6.5/9 (+4 -0 =5). This tournament victory secured him the Grandmaster title, making him Turkey's youngest-ever Grandmaster at the time, and earned him direct qualification into the Masters division of the 2025 Prague Chess Festival.
