Dmitry Sergeevich Bocharov (born October 20, 1982) is a Russian chess grandmaster representing the Russian Chess Federation (RUS). He was awarded the FIDE Grandmaster (GM) title in 2003. Bocharov achieved his career-high classical FIDE rating of 2647 in January 2009, which ranked him No. 77 in the world at the time. Throughout his professional career, Bocharov has established a prominent identity as an accomplished open tournament competitor, a key team player in national and European club leagues, and an opening theoretician.

Dmitry Bocharov developed his chess career in Novosibirsk, Russia. In 2002, he tied for first place in the Samara stage of the Russian Cup with 7/9. His major international breakthrough occurred in 2003, when he tied for first at the prestigious Cappelle-la-Grande Open, scoring 7/9 alongside Vladimir Burmakin, Eduardas Rozentalis, Philipp Schlosser, Alexander Areshchenko, and Jakov Geller, earning a grandmaster norm. This performance led to the official award of the FIDE Grandmaster title later that year.
In 2004, Bocharov secured clear first place at the Masters tournament of the 14th Abu Dhabi Chess Festival, finishing on 7/9 ahead of Mikhail Kobalia. This success qualified him for the Chess World Cup 2005 in Khanty-Mansiysk, where he defeated Pavel Smirnov in the opening round before being eliminated in the second round by Gata Kamsky.
Bocharov’s competitive momentum continued with victories in key Russian tournaments. In 2006, he won the 14th Chigorin Memorial in Saint Petersburg. Two years later, in 2008, he won the 10th World University Chess Championship in Novokuznetsk. Following these successes, he reached his peak FIDE rating of 2647 in January 2009. Later that year, he tied for first place at the 11th Dubai Open, finishing second on tiebreaks behind Dmitry Kokarev, and tied for first at the Voronezh Open.
In 2011, Bocharov secured a clear first-place finish at the Mikhail Chigorin Memorial for the second time, scoring 7.5/9. In May 2015, he won the Russian Blitz Chess Championship in Saint Petersburg, scoring 9.5/11. He participated in the Russian Championship Superfinal in Novosibirsk in 2016. In his later career, Bocharov tied for second at the Pavlodar Open in 2023.
