Playing Style, Material Tendencies & Endgame Profiling
Santos Latasa is characterized as a concrete, dynamic calculator with a highly technical positional foundation. He thrives in rapid time controls, a testament to his swift decision-making and tactical sharpness under pressure.
He treats king safety with classical care, prioritizing sound pawn structures and reliable coordination before launching attacks. However, in open and semi-open structures—particularly in lines of the Sicilian Defense—he is highly efficient at handling unbalanced and sharp tactical lines.
He manages space advantages with patient maneuvers, particularly utilizing the bishop pair or dynamic knight maneuvers in closed structures. When navigating transition phases from the opening, Santos Latasa relies heavily on deep home preparation to avoid structural damage, but is perfectly comfortable accepting isolated queen pawns or asymmetric structures if compensated by active piece play.
His technical prowess is highly visible in endgames, where he possesses a strong capability to convert minor-piece advantages and navigate complex rook-and-pawn endings, often using active king placement and tactical precision to exploit minimal advantages.
