Overview

Javokhir Sindarov (born December 8, 2005) is an Uzbekistani chess grandmaster who is widely recognized as one of the elite competitors of the modern chess era. Representing the Uzbekistan chess federation (UZB), he achieved the Grandmaster (GM) title in October 2018 at the age of 12 years, 10 months, and 8 days, which made him the second-youngest player in chess history to earn the title at the time. Sindarov achieved a career-high classical FIDE rating of 2776 on the May 2026 list, ranking him among the top five players in the world. He established himself as a world-class competitor after winning the 2025 FIDE World Cup and subsequently dominating the 2026 FIDE Candidates Tournament, qualifying to challenge Gukesh Dommaraju for the World Chess Championship.

Sindarov was born in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and was introduced to chess at the age of four and a half by his grandfather, Komil Sindarov. He quickly demonstrated prodigious talent, winning the Under-7 category of the Asian School Chess Championship in 2012, followed by a gold medal in the Under-9 category at the 2014 World School Chess Championship in rapid and blitz.

Sindarov’s progression to the Grandmaster title was exceptionally rapid. He obtained the International Master (IM) title in October 2017. Nationally, Sindarov won the Uzbekistan National Chess Championship in both 2019 and 2021. He officially crossed the 2700 Elo rating barrier for the first time in late 2023. In May 2025, he won the prestigious TePe Sigeman & Co Chess Tournament, scoring 4.5/7. Later that year, he achieved a monumental career breakthrough by winning the 2025 FIDE World Cup in Baku, defeating Chinese Grandmaster Wei Yi in the finals. This historic victory earned him direct qualification to the 2026 FIDE Candidates Tournament.
