Tournaments

ChessHere runs tournaments for both live and correspondence chess. The system handles pairing, standings, and time enforcement automatically. Anyone with an account can join — and any player can also create their own tournament and invite others.

  • What tournament formats are supported?

ChessHere currently supports round-robin tournaments for both live and correspondence chess, where each player plays every other player. More formats — Swiss, knockout, arena — are on the roadmap. Round-robin is the format used by most serious correspondence events because it eliminates pairing luck: you face the whole field on equal terms.

  • How do I join a tournament?

Open the Tournaments page and pick an event from the list of upcoming tournaments. Click Join — for public tournaments you're in immediately. Some tournaments are invite-only or require organizer approval, in which case your request goes to the organizer for review. You'll get a notification when the tournament starts and your first round is paired.

  • How does tournament pairing work?

Round-robin tournaments pair every entrant against every other entrant, with colors balanced across rounds. The system schedules all pairings when the tournament starts, so you can see your full lineup from round one. Standings update live as games finish, with tiebreaks computed automatically. The tournament page shows the full crosstable plus your personal schedule.

  • Can I withdraw from a tournament?

Yes — open the tournament page and click Withdraw. Your remaining games are forfeited as losses, which keeps the standings fair to other players. You can rejoin a different tournament right away. Withdrawing too often from tournaments you started can affect your eligibility for invite-only events; the system tracks completion rate.

  • Are there tournament prizes?

Most ChessHere tournaments are competitive but not prize-bearing — they exist for the rating, the standings, and the experience. Some special events offer bragging rights, badges, or trophies on the winner's profile. Cash or merchandise prizes, when offered, are clearly listed on the tournament page; if you don't see prizes mentioned, the tournament has none.

  • How do I create my own tournament?

Open the Tournaments page and click Create. You pick the format (round-robin), the time control, the start date, and whether the tournament is public, public-with-approval, or invite-only. Once created, share the link with players you want to invite. The system handles pairings, standings, and notifications from there — you don't need to manage anything manually.
